People in Need Worldwide
People in Need (PIN) is a Czech non-governmental, non-profit organization that provides relief aid and development assistance while working to defend human rights and democratic freedom in the crisis regions all over the world.
Since its foundation in 1992, PIN has worked at home in the Czech Republic, and in over 50 countries and gradually became established abroad as a professional relief and development organization. With a global turnover of 55 million EUR (2015) and over 1,100 employees worldwide, PIN is one of the largest organizations of its kind in post-communist Europe.
PIN is a member of the Alliance 2015, a strategic network of eight European NGOs to fight poverty more effectively.
The organization is based on the ideas of humanism, freedom, equality and solidarity. It believes that people anywhere in the world should have a right to make decisions about their lives and to share the rights expressed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. To achieve that, PIN implements humanitarian relief, developmental projects, educational programs, and human rights programs both in the Czech Republic and in dozens of other countries.
Everywhere PIN works, it is intrinsic part of the civil society, working not only with beneficiaries, but also with local volunteers, businesses, governments and international institutions.
The scope of PIN´s activities, particular areas and priorities are determined independently with respect to the level of urgency and to its real capacity to change something. For PIN, it is not important to have the work done everywhere, however, it is essential to make a real difference.
In troubled regions around the world, PIN provides humanitarian aid on the basis of specific needs in the spirit of the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross. PIN fights poverty, whose causes are seen in the limitations given by poor access to education, natural resources, healthcare, unequal treatment and discrimination, or by bad governance.
The People in Need´s activities are focused on four main areas:
1. Emergency relief and development cooperation
2. Human rights support
3. Social integration programs
4. Educational and informational programsPeople in Need is an active partner in the Czech Forum for Development Cooperation (FoRS), the European NGO network Alliance 2015 , the European Union Monitoring Center (EUMC) and the networks Eurostep and Concord.
